Polar Plunge 2017 Results!

This year our team of Leah Bohn, Eric Proces, Nicholas Tarbet, Cameron Knuteson, Joshua Stern, Thomas Hamielec, and David Boetcher raised a total of $4,439.19 to support Special Olympics of Wisconsin!

From Special Olympics Wisconsin:

Each and every day, our athletes inspire us as they defy odds, demonstrate courage and beat their personal bests. Opportunities to bring out our athletes’ abilities are made possible because of your participation and support of the Polar Plunge.

We are thrilled to announce that more than 1,000 Plungers raised $295,000 at the Madison Polar Plunge on February 18th! It takes $552 to support one athlete for one year. That means you have changed the lives of more than 534 athletes forever.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local Union 159 (IBEW Local 159) is proud to support the Special Olympics of Wisconsin.

For the 3rd year the Polar Plunge fundraiser is being led by our RENEW Committee (REach out and Engage Next-gen Electrical Workers), consisting of members under 35 years old.

This year we have $1500 available in matching funds from the local. This means every dollar you donate is like donating two dollars! Donate $25 and it becomes $50!

Thank you for supporting the Special Olympics Wisconsin Polar Plunge. Your donation helps to support the 18 different Olympic-type sports offered year-round, as well as free health care screens to ensure optimal health and performance of Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes during competition.… Read more...

Swift House project in Union Sportsmen’s Journal

Last fall, members of the Building Trades Council of South-Central Wisconsin completed a conservation project at Cherokee Marsh in Madison. The chimney swift tower provides overnight roosting for these agile, insect-devouring birds. As natural roosting places have dwindled, and chimneys are less common, habitat enhancements like this can make a difference. This project was funded with proceeds from the annual Union Sportsmen’s Alliance conservation dinner.

The Union Sportsmen’s Journal picked up the story in its Spring 2016 issue. Read the story below.

This year’s Madison Area Conservation Dinner will be September 16, at the Alliant Energy Center.
